Summary

MyWord ("we", "our", "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This page explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and how you can manage or delete it. Applicable laws considered include POPIA (South Africa), GDPR (EU/UK) and common international privacy standards.

1. Information We Collect

  • Account information: username (required), password (if you sign up without Google), email (optional), and profile picture (optional).
  • Google sign-in data: name, email (if permitted) and profile picture URL — only with your consent.
  • Gameplay & technical data: game results, scores, challenge records, timestamps, device/browser metadata, and IP address for security.

2. How We Use Your Data

  • To provide and operate the MyWord service (accounts, challenges, leaderboards).
  • To permit you to challenge other players by username (we do not expose user lists).
  • For security, fraud prevention, and rate-limiting abuse.
  • To send optional emails (challenge invites) only if an email exists and you permit it.

3. Sharing & Third Parties

We do not sell your personal data. We may share data with:

  • Hosting providers and services needed to run MyWord.
  • Email providers if you receive invitation emails.
  • Legal authorities if required by law.

4. Cookies & Analytics (Google Analytics)

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use MyWord, improve performance, and measure feature usage. Google Analytics may set cookies or use similar technologies to collect usage data.

What Google Analytics may collect:

  • Pages/screens visited, time spent, clicks/interactions, and referring pages.
  • Device and browser information (e.g., operating system, browser type, screen size).
  • Approximate location (derived from IP address) and general network information.
  • Identifiers such as cookie IDs or advertising identifiers (depending on your settings).

How we use this data:

  • To analyze traffic and usage trends.
  • To debug issues and improve site/app reliability and user experience.
  • To understand which features are most useful.

Cookies: You can control cookies through your browser settings. You can block or delete cookies at any time, but some features of the service may not work properly.

Opt-out options:

  • You can install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on (where available).
  • You can disable cookies or use browser “Do Not Track” controls (note: not all services honor DNT).

Google processes this information on our behalf under its terms and privacy policy. Depending on where you live, your data may be processed outside your country (including in the United States).

5. Google Sign-In

If you use Google OAuth to sign in, we receive only the profile information you consent to share (name, email, profile photo). We do not access your Google contacts, drive, or other private resources.

If Google’s profile image URL becomes unreachable, we may optionally store a downloaded fallback copy (only when permitted). You may remove MyWord access from your Google account at any time via Google account security settings.

6. Data Retention & Deletion

We retain gameplay records and leaderboard data to preserve fairness and integrity. You may request complete account deletion (see Data Deletion page). We will act on deletion requests within 30 days where feasible.

We may remove or modify user profile information (including profile pictures) where required to enforce our Terms of Service, comply with legal obligations, or protect the safety and integrity of the service.
